I just got in from doing a bit of pampering with my Arabian gelding Midnight. Brushed him down, along with his mane and tail, put some fly stuff on him to keep the pesky things away, and he got his worming! What a wonderful day to spend with horses.
About Me
Hi, I am happily married to a wonderful man, and we have been blessed with a son so far. They keep me pretty busy, but in my free time, I want to start writing and drawing again. I love to sing and hope to take some vocal lessons in the future. Horses are my biggest hobby, but I also enjoy baking. I want to one day open up a horse rescue in my area.
About My Horses
I have been on the equine scene since about 2008. That is the year I bought my first horse, a rescued black Arabian gelding named Midnight. I still have him to this day but he is the only one until my husband and I can buy land. Midnight is now 30+ years old, and I will miss him horribly whenever he does pass on.
I have had several horses over the years as I have dabbled in rescue and helped the ones that I could, but currently, like I said, I am down to just Midnight at the moment.
Events I Participate In
If I could start showing horses, I would love to get into the AOCS, Alabama Obstacle Course Series. I mostly ride for pleasure and out on trails.
My Tack
I ride Western in either a barrel or roping saddle, but one day, I am going to save up and buy a Clinton Anderson saddle.
I also prefer to ride in hackamores. I like the challenge, as I have been told before they are merely an illusion of control over the horse. It reminds me of my desire and love of training. It shows me what I need to work on, and it builds an amount of trust in the horse that I love. That is not to say I won't use a bit if needed, but most horses I have noticed ride wonderful with light hands, no bit, and a little bit of time and patience.
My Vet
I have recently swapped Vets and currently haven't been with my new vet very long. He is a mobile vet in the county, but the few times I have used him, Dr. Edwards, I have enjoyed his professional insight and reasonable rates.
My Farrier
I have recently started using a new farrier too. Her name is Jennifer Arnold, out of the Hartselle, AL, area. She owns Stallion Games, which is her farrier service. She came out just recently to trim Midnight, and I loved the work she did on Midnight's feet. She was very good with him, especially for it to be the first time. Midnight's back feet are sometimes hard to trim because he wants to pull them away, but she kept with him and remained calm the whole time and got it done.
My Favorite Horse Products
I love Vetricyn. I have used it many times over the years and is my main go to for scrapes and cuts. It is the best on the market for it that I have ever seen. A bit pricey, but when you see how often you use it and how well it works, it is worth it. I even spray it on rainrot and other fungus etc.
